Gateway Casino Sault Ste. Marie has confirmed that it won't be opening its doors under Stage 3 of Ontario's reopening plan.
Rob Mitchell, director of communications and public affairs for Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited, confirmed in an email that all Gateway locations across the province will remain closed as the company evaluates how it can operate under current capacity restrictions.
Casinos were cleared to reopen July 17 as part of Stage 3, but with a reduced capacity of 50 people. Table games and buffets are not permitted.
Mitchell says its health and safety plans for each Gateway location must be independently reviewed by a third party health and safety expert and submitted to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) prior to reopening.
“We have developed extensive health and safety plans for each site, which includes two metres physical distancing, rigorous cleaning and sanitation measures and the mandatory use of masks or face coverings for all individuals entering our gaming sites,” Mitchell said.
