Online gaming firm PartyPoker is sponsoring a tournament to raise money for the homeless.

The event will take place on January 4th as part of the Irish Poker Championship over the new year.

In the Poker for the Homeless competition, a percentage of each buy-in goes towards the worthy cause.

Organisations in Dublin and Galway will be the beneficiaries of the competition.

Among the players who will be turning up at the Radisson SAS in Galway are Marty Smyth, Padraig Parkinson, Scott Gray, Ciaran O'Leary and Andy Black.

As well as these local players, there will also be a number of gamers turning up from across the world, including Mike Sexton, Kenna James, Dave Ulliot, Claude Cohen and Leo Margets.

Last year, the main event in the competition was won by Jude Ainsworth, who pocketed €180,000 ($246,000) in prize money when he defeated Michael McCool in heads-up play.

PartyPoker recently sponsored the Premier League Three, which was won by JC Tran.
